76ers 89, Pistons 69: Robert Covington led six players in double figures with 19 points as host Philadelphia ended a six-game losing streak.

Michael Carter-Williams finished with 14 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the 76ers, who trailed for only 12 seconds early in the game. JaKarr Sampson scored 13 points and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added 12 as Philadelphia improved to 2-1 against Detroit this season.

Greg Monroe collected 20 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Pistons, who fell to 0-3 since losing leading scorer Brandon Jennings to a season-ending injury and dropped their fourth straight overall. Jodie Meeks added 19 points on 4-of-16 shooting as Detroit shot 30.7 percent in its worst offensive showing of the season.

Mbah a Moute scored four times in the first five-plus minutes to help Philadelphia open up a commanding 24-4 lead, but Detroit pulled within 12 points at the end of the first quarter and was down 48-37 at the half. The 76ers rebuilt their advantage to 68-51 on a basket by Sims late in the period before enduring a stretch of more than five minutes without a field goal, allowing the Pistons to cut their deficit to nine points again with less than eight minutes left in the game.

Mbah a Moute had a dunk and a jumper to make it 77-63 with 5:24 to go and Sampson and Carter-Williams scored on consecutive possessions to put the hosts up 81-66 with just over two minutes remaining. Detroit was unable to make a late charge as it lost its fourth straight on the road.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carter-Williams missed the last game due to an upper respiratory infection. ... Detroit was 2-of-20 from 3-point distance while Philadelphia finished 7-of-21. ... Pistons PG D.J. Augustin scored a total of 54 points in his first two starts since Jennings went down but was held to two points on 0-of-7 shooting in this one.
