Wizards 99, Nets 90:
Nene scored 20 points and Bradley Beal added 17 points, nine rebounds and a season-high eight assists as visiting Washington held off Brooklyn.

Marcin Gortat collected 10 points and a season-high 16 rebounds for the Wizards, who earned a split of the home-and-home set after suffering their worst loss of the season 102-80 at home to the Nets on Friday. Kris Humphries had 13 points and Kevin Seraphin added 12 to pace the reserves for Washington.

Jarrett Jack recorded 22 points and eight assists as Brooklyn fell for the eighth time in nine games. Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez added 15 points apiece and Mason Plumlee scored 11 for the Nets.

Brooklyn knotted it at 81 on Lopez’s free throws with 8:27 left but the Wizards surged back ahead and took a 93-87 lead on Nene’s three-point play with 3:35 left. John Wall found Nene for a jumper to make it 95-88 with 1:13 remaining and the Nets failed to counter as Washington closed it out at the line.

Brooklyn took a 51-50 lead into the break after a tight first half and was up 63-56 after Bojan Bogdanovic’s bucket with 7:43 left in the third. Nene scored six points as the Wizards responded with a 10-0 run, and Rasual Butler’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Washington a 77-70 lead heading to the fourth.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Washington F Paul Pierce made his return to Brooklyn for the first time since leaving in the offseason and scored seven points on 2-of-9 shooting. … The Wizards improved to 23-1 when holding the opponent below 100 points. … Johnson went 6-of-17 from the field and is 15-of-53 over the last four games.
