Trey Burke added 20 points for the Jazz, who forced 21 turnovers. Derrick Favors finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds to record his fifth double-double in the last six games as Utah also ended a three-game losing streak at home.

Nick Young hit a career-high 13 free throws in as many attempts en route to 23 points for the Lakers, who were without superstar Kobe Bryant, resting a night after handing out a career-high 17 assists in a loss to Cleveland. Jordan Hill was the only teammate in double figures with 16 points.

Utah led by as many as eight in the first quarter but needed a three-point play by Rudy Gobert in the closing seconds of the second to seize a 44-43 halftime lead. The Lakers moved ahead by four midway through the third before Hayward had nine points and two assists in a 17-6 run to close the period, leaving the Jazz with a 70-63 lead.

Young twice made three free throws after being fouled beyond the arc and also buried a triple to help Los Angeles get within 83-81 with under five minutes left. Hayward hit a free throw following a technical foul on Young moments later and added a 3-pointer as part of an 8-0 surge that left Utah with an insurmountable nine-point advantage with a minute to go.
