Suns 106, Spurs 85: Markieff Morris scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting and Channing Frye added 17 points and eight rebounds as host Phoenix cruised past San Antonio.

Ish Smith scored a career-best 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting for the Suns, who won their third consecutive game. Gerald Green and Marcus Morris scored 13 points apiece as Phoenix improved to a season-best 12 games above. 500.

Danny Green scored 15 points and Tim Duncan added 13 for the Spurs, who ended the annual rodeo road trip with a 6-3 record. Cory Joseph tallied 11 points for San Antonio, which shot just 34.9 percent from the field and went 2-of-21 from 3-point range.

Phoenix seized control in the second quarter when it exploded with a 26-3 surge to turn a six-point deficit into a 45-28 lead. The Spurs missed 15 of 16 shots during the 8 1/2-minute stretch and shot 27.5 percent in the half while falling behind 47-35.

A 3-pointer by Frye gave the Suns a 64-42 lead with 5:39 left in the third quarter and they settled for a 74-57 advantage entering the final stanza. San Antonio trailed by 15 with four minutes left before the Suns scored the next seven points, capped by a 3-pointer from Markieff Morris with 2:46 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Spurs PG Tony Parker (various injuries) missed his third straight game since playing in the All-Star Game and SF Kawhi Leonard (finger) sat out for the 14th consecutive game. … Markieff Morris and Frye each had three steals as Phoenix had 11 overall while forcing 18 turnovers. … San Antonio guards Patty Mills (2-of-14) and Marco Belinelli (1-of-8) combined to miss 19 of their 22 field-goal attempts, including all 10 3-point attempts.
