Jazz 96, Lakers 79: Alec Burks scored 24 points off the bench and Gordon Hayward collected 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as Utah took down visiting Los Angeles.

Jeremy Evans added 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting off the bench and Derrick Favors recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Jazz (18-33), who have won two straight to leap over the Lakers (18-34) in the Western Conference standings. Enes Kanter grabbed 11 rebounds as Utah built up a 55-40 advantage on the glass.

Chris Kaman had 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead injury-depleted Los Angeles, which matched a franchise record with its sixth straight home loss. Wesley Johnson scored 15 points for the Lakers, who were without Steve Nash in the second half due to the nerve root irritation that kept him out for nearly three months.

Los Angeles started out strong and used a 19-0 run in the first quarter to grab a 25-11 lead before settling for a 27-16 advantage at the end of the period. The Jazz turned the tables in the second quarter, beginning with a 20-5 burst to take the lead and holding the Lakers to 4-of-18 shooting to move ahead 48-37 at the break.

Johnson’s layup pulled Los Angeles within 53-52 midway through the third quarter but Utah never surrendered the lead. The Lakers made another attempt in the final stanza, cutting it to 72-69 with 8:55 to play, but Brandon Rush responded with a 3-pointer to kick off an 11-2 burst and the Jazz coasted to the finish.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nash recorded two points and two assists in 17 minutes before being pulled. … The Lakers were without Pau Gasol (groin), Nick Young (knee), Jodie Meeks (ankle) and Jordan Farmar (hamstring). … Jazz F Marvin Williams was held to nine points on 4-of-8 shooting, snapping a season-high string of three straight games with at least 20 points.
