Bulls 96, Spurs 86: Jimmy Butler led seven players in double figures with 19 points as visiting Chicago began its six-game road trip by holding off San Antonio.

Carlos Boozer collected 16 points and 12 rebounds while Joakim Noah returned from a one-game absence and recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and four blocks for the Bulls. Taj Gibson scored 15 points off the bench as Chicago won for the fifth time in seven games to pull back above .500 at 23-22.

Tony Parker had 20 points and six assists while Tim Duncan added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, who have dropped three straight. Patty Mills scored 12 points off the bench for San Antonio, which added Manu Ginobili (hamstring) to its long list of injuries prior to the contest.

Mills’ 3-pointer midway through the third gave the Spurs a 51-49 edge before the Bulls took off on a 14-4 burst to take control. The lead reached 10 points before San Antonio put together a short rally to head into the fourth down 68-61.

Chicago scored on its first five possessions of the final frame to spread the lead to 13 points and were never seriously threatened down the stretch. D.J. Augustin’s 3-pointer with 1:38 to play pushed it out to 94-79 as the Bulls put it away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ginobili joins starters Tiago Splitter (shoulder), Danny Green (hand) and Kawhi Leonard (hand) on the injured list and is expected to miss three to four weeks. … Bulls G Kirk Hinrich (hamstring) returned from a five-game absence and scored 11 points in 22 minutes off the bench. … San Antonio committed 19 turnovers while Chicago handed it over only eight times.
