Mavericks 110, Pelicans 107: Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-high 40 points and Monta Ellis added 26 as Dallas swept a home-and-home set from visiting New Orleans.

Nowitzki, who scored 24 points in the 107-90 win at New Orleans on Friday, knocked down five 3-pointers and went 15-of-16 from the free-throw line for the Mavericks. Jose Calderon added 17 points and hit a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to provide the final margin as Dallas picked up its sixth straight win over the Pelicans.

Anthony Davis collected 28 points and 14 rebounds and Eric Gordon scored 20 for New Orleans, which dropped its fifth straight. Al-Farouq Aminu recorded 15 points and 11 boards while Darius Miller chipped in 12 points off the bench for the Pelicans.

Nowitzki’s last of four 3-pointers in the third left the Mavericks with an 84-75 edge, and New Orleans trailed by seven entering the final 12 minutes but started the fourth strong to grab a 95-92 lead after back-to-back baskets by Davis midway through the quarter. Dallas took the lead back with a 9-0 run that made it 106-99 and held off a late charge.

The Mavericks shot 27.3 percent in the first half but took a 42-37 lead into the break thanks to a 20-of-24 effort from the free throw line and the Pelicans’ own struggles from the field. Both teams picked it up after the break, with Dallas going 13-for-17 in the third quarter as Nowitzki exploded for 20 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
New Orleans is 0-5 since Ryan Anderson went down with a herniated disc in his neck. … The Mavericks ended up 39-of-45 from the free-throw line to help make up for a 48-30 rebounding deficit. … Davis has scored at least 20 points in four straight games.
