Lakers 116, Clippers 103:
Xavier Henry scored 12 of his career-high 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Lakers turned to their bench in the final period and dominated the visiting Clippers in the season opener.

Jordan Farmar had nine of his 16 in the fourth and Pau Gasol collected 15 points and 13 rebounds despite sitting out the final period. The Lakers left their entire starting unit on the bench for the last 15 minutes and outscored the Clippers 41-24 in the decisive period.

Blake Griffin scored 19 points, DeAndre Jordan recorded 17 and 11 rebounds and Chris Paul had 15 points and 11 assists for the Clippers, who swept the four-game season series en route to the Pacific Division title last season.

The Clippers took a 79-75 lead into the fourth but Jodie Meeks tied it with a 3-pointer and put the Lakers on top 86-83 on a traditional three-point play with 9:06 to play. Henry’s layup with 5:30 left extended the gap to double figures at 100-89 and it stretched out to 108-91 on Jordan Hill’s bank shot with under three minutes left.

The Clippers got off to a strong start as J.J. Redick came out hot in his team debut and piled up 10 points in the first six minutes. The Lakers never let the Clippers get more than six points ahead in the second quarter and went into the break down 57-55.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Lakers enjoyed a 52-40 advantage on the glass and pulled down 18 offensive rebounds, led by Hill’s seven. … Lakers G Kobe Bryant (Achilles) missed the opener and is still out indefinitely. … The Lakers spoiled the debut of new Clippers coach Doc Rivers, who watched his team allow the Lakers to knock down 14-of-29 from 3-point range.
