Lakers 86, Grizzlies 84:
Kobe Bryant had 24 points and nine assists and Pau Gasol added 19 points and nine rebounds as host Los Angeles edged Memphis.

Earl Clark and Antawn Jamison scored 13 points apiece as the Lakers remained a half-game ahead of the Utah Jazz in the battle for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Mike Conley scored 21 points but missed two shots in the final five seconds, including a driving attempt at the buzzer. Zach Randolph added 15 points for the Grizzlies, who had a four-game winning streak snapped and fell one game behind third-place Denver.

Randolph put Memphis ahead 84-83 with 2:31 left and Gasol answered with a basket with 1:36 remaining to give the Lakers a one-point edge. Conley missed a go-ahead shot with five seconds left and Dwight Howard hit one of two free throws with 4.1 seconds to play.

Los Angeles led 46-39 at halftime before Memphis opened the second half with a 15-1 run to take a seven-point lead. The Lakers recovered with a 19-4 burst and later took a 68-62 advantage into the final 12 minutes.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Howard reached double digits on the boards for the 22nd consecutive game but fell one point short of his 15th straight double-double. … The Grizzlies were 3-of-14 from 3-point range. … The Lakers committed 18 turnovers while playing without PG Steve Nash (hip) for the second straight game.
