Mavericks 116, Rockets 109: O.J. Mayo scored 16 of his 40 points in the fourth quarter as visiting Dallas made the last run in a roller-coaster win over Houston.

Chris Kaman scored 20 points for the Mavericks, who outscored the Rockets 20-9 in the final 5:16 to surge ahead. Mayo scored 12 points during that run, including a pair of 3-pointers and a driving layup that sealed it with 21 seconds left.

James Harden scored 19 of his 39 points in the second quarter to help the Rockets overcome a big early deficit. He added nine assists and six rebounds and Chandler Parsons collected 18 points and 10 boards for Houston, which got coach Kevin McHale back for the game.

Dallas used an 18-2 run in the first quarter to grab the lead and went into the second with a 39-24 cushion. Harden began the comeback with a three-point play early in the second period and totaled 17 points during a 32-9 burst that put the Rockets on top 58-54 with 2:10 left in the half.

Houston led by as many as 11 points early in the fourth before Dallas made its run. Brandan Wright bookended a 17-4 burst with a pair of short jumpers, giving the Mavericks the lead back at 102-100 with 4:18 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
McHale had been away from the team since Nov. 10 due to his daughter’s illness and death. The Rockets went 7-6 in his absence under assistant coach Kelvin Sampson. … Rockets PG Jeremy Lin was held to seven points, marking the third straight game he has failed to reach double figures. Lin has seen his playing time dip below 20 minutes in each of the last two contests. … Dallas has won four straight in Houston.
