John Wall made a favorable impression on Deron Williams with 18 points and 15 assists as the Wizards continued their solid play at Verizon Center with a 108-101 victory over the Utah Jazz in a Monday matinee.
Nick Young scored 25 points and Andray Blatche added 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards, who improved to 12-8 at home compared to 0-19 on the road. It was also their first victory against a team with a winning record for the first time this season.
Williams had 28 points and 11 assists and Al Jefferson added 25 points and 10 boards, but they didn’t get much help from the rest of the cast as Utah had its three-game winning streak snapped in the first of five straight road games.
The Jazz stayed in the game on the strength of 14-of-27 shooting from beyond the arc, including 6-of-10 by Williams, but couldn’t prevent just their second loss in 22 games when scoring 100 points.
The Wizards led by 14 with 5:37 to play before the Jazz made a late run. Jefferson scored nine points and Williams added four and four assists to pull within three with under a minute left, but Young drained a left baseline jumper with 40 seconds left and Wall added two free throws to cement the victory.
Young has scored 79 points in his last three games, Wall extended his streak of nine assists or more to eight straight and Washington shot better than 50 percent for just the sixth time this season.
