Jason Terry had 19 of his 27 points in the first half as the Dallas Mavericks clinched their first-ever NBA championship with a 105-95 win over the host Miami Heat in Game 6 of the Finals on Sunday.

Terry's virtuoso first-half performance, combined with a strong second-half effort from Dirk Nowitzki, proved too much for a Heat team that wilted in the fourth quarter for the fourth time in the series. As in its Game 5 victory, Dallas relied on a dominant performance from the 3-point line Sunday, making 11 of 26 shots from long range to avenge a loss to Miami in the 2006 Finals.

Nowitzki had 18 of his 21 points after halftime while J.J. Barea added 15 points for Dallas, which shot 50 percent from the field in the title-clinching win. Nowitzki was named Finals MVP, averaging 25.8 points and 10 rebounds in the series as the Mavericks won the final three games of the best-of-seven.

LeBron James had 21 points to lead the Heat but looked tentative in the final period, as he had for most of the series. Chris Bosh added 19 points, Dwyane Wade had 17 and Mario Chalmers chipped in with 15.

Leading 53-51 at the half, Dallas watched Miami go back in front before erupting for an 8-0 run early in the third quarter to open up a seven-point lead. Nowitzki finally reached double digits just after the halfway point of the quarter, knocking down a 3-pointer from the top of the arc.

Jason Kidd padded the lead with a long 3-pointer in the final minute and Ian Mahinmi added a long jumper at the buzzer as Dallas enjoyed an 81-72 lead entering the fourth.

After Miami closed to within four, Barea knocked down Dallas's 11th 3-pointer of the night for an 84-77 edge. That advantage swelled to 12 points with eight minutes remaining, and Nowitzki hit a pair of key jumpers inside five minutes to keep the lead at double digits - including a pull-up 18-footer with 2:27 remaining that made it 99-89 and prompted a Miami timeout.

Miami's Eddie House missed a 3 on the ensuing possession, and Terry put the game away with a foul-line jumper with two minutes left.

The players began celebrating even before the final buzzer sounded. Moments after the game ended, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban embraced his players while Nowitzki headed to the locker room with his uniform covering his face.

Nowitzki returned to the court to share in the celebration as commissioner David Stern presented the Larry O'Brien Trophy to the franchise's first owner, Donald Carter.

With Nowitzki on the bench following two early fouls, the Mavericks stunned Miami by fashioning a 15-2 run to take a 32-27 lead into the second quarter. The edge grew to as many as 12 points before the Heat rebounded, a House 3-pointer capping a 14-0 stretch that gave Miami a two-point advantage.

DeShawn Stevenson bumped into Udonis Haslem following the made shot, and several players from both teams began jawing at one another at mid-court before the officials stepped in. Stevenson, Haslem and Mario Chalmers were given technical fouls for their role in the fracas.

When the game resumed, Terry took over. The supersub scored 10 straight Mavericks points, including a pair of 3-pointers 1:17 apart as Dallas forged a 53-51 halftime edge.
