Joc Pederson drove in three runs as the Chicago Cubs rallied for an 8-5 victory over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals Friday.

Pederson hit a solo homer and a two-run double as the Cubs erased a 5-1 deficit to win for the fourth time in five games.

Nolan Arenado drove in three runs for the Cardinals, who lost for the seventh time in eight games.

Cubs starter Kohl Stewart allowed five runs on six hits and two walks in four-plus innings. Reliever Tommy Nance (1-0), the third Cubs pitcher, got the victory and Craig Kimbrel earned his 16th save.

Cardinals starting pitcher Johan Oviedo allowed four runs on five hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings. Reliever Genesis Cabrera (1-2) took the loss.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Stewart hit Tyler O'Neill with a pitch and allowed singles by Yadier Molina and Matt Carpenter.

Oviedo drew a walk in the third inning, then Paul Goldschmidt and Arenado hit two-out singles to put the Cardinals up 2-0.

Pederson's fourth-inning homer cut the lead to 2-1.

Oviedo walked again in the fifth to trigger a big inning. Tommy Edman hit a single, then Dylan Carlson hit an RBI double to knock Stewart out of the game.

Arenado's two-run single off reliever Keegan Thompson pushed the Cardinals' lead to 5-1.

The Cubs got to Oviedo in the fifth inning. Willson Contreras walked, raced to third on Jason Heyward's single and scored on Molina's passed ball.

Sergio Alcantara hit an RBI triple and scored on Molina's throwing error to cut the lead to 5-4.

Anthony Rizzo won a 14-pitch at-bat against Daniel Ponce de Leon to hit a game-tying solo homer in the sixth inning.

Then the Cubs jumped Cabrera for a 7-5 lead in the seventh inning. Heyward hit an infield single, Jake Marisnick hit a bloop single and Pederson hammered his double.

Contreras hit an eighth-inning homer to make it 8-5.
