Yonder Alonso hit a walk-off, two-run single to lift the host Chicago White Sox to a 7-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night in the second game of a doubleheader.

Adam Engel had three hits, Jose Abreu amassed two hits and four RBIs, and Tim Anderson contributed two hits in the nightcap as the White Sox regrouped from a 5-4 loss in the opener to earn a split of the twin bill.

Alonso was 0-for-8 in the doubleheader entering his ninth-inning at-bat against Miguel Castro. With the bases loaded and two outs, he hit an opposite-field single to short left field, cementing a come-from-behind victory.

Baltimore's Dwight Smith Jr. had three hits and an RBI, and he executed an effective take-out slide to help the go-ahead run score in the seventh inning.

In the ninth, Leury Garcia drew a leadoff walk from Orioles reliever Evan Phillips, and Engel followed with a bunt single.

Paul Fry replaced Phillips got Yoan Moncada to ground out with the runners moving up a base. Castro then entered and struck out Jose Rondon before intentionally walking Abreu to bring up Alonso.

The Orioles opened the scoring on a Smith RBI single in the first inning, but the White Sox answered with a run-scoring single from Engel in the second.

A solo home run from Abreu gave Chicago a 2-1 lead in the third, but Baltimore regained the advantage on Stevie Wilkerson's three-run shot with one out in the fourth.

Abreu struck again in the bottom of the fourth, grounding a bases-clearing, three-run single to center field to give the White Sox a 5-4 lead. Alert baserunning from trail runner Nicky Delmonico allowed all three runners to score.

Anthony Santander tied the game for the Orioles with a solo shot leading off the sixth before the visitors grabbed the lead again in the seventh. On first courtesy of a White Sox fielding error following a Rio Ruiz leadoff single, Smith hustled toward second base when Chris Davis grounded to White Sox second baseman Yolmer Sanchez with one out.

Smith's takeout slide disrupted the play, which ended with a throwing error by shortstop Anderson that allowed Ruiz to score, giving Baltimore a 6-5 lead.

Thyago Vieira (1-0) earned the victory for the White Sox with two innings of one-hit, two-strikeout relief. He was called up from Triple-A Charlotte to serve as the White Sox's 26th man for the second game of the doubleheader, and he was immediately optioned back to the minor league postgame.

Phillips (0-1) was the loser, allowing two runs on one hit in one-plus inning with one walk and two strikeouts.
