Will Smith and Kristopher Negron homered in the ninth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 in Denver on Wednesday.

Alex Verdugo tied a career high with four hits and Joe Kelly (5-3) got the win with an inning of relief.

Cody Bellinger started the rally with a one-out walk, Corey Seager singled and Smith hit his fourth homer off reliever Wade Davis (1-5). Verdugo followed with a single and Negron hit his second homer in as many games to make it 5-0.

Trevor Story led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple and scored on Nolan Arenado's single. Kenley Jansen came on to finish the game for the Dodgers.

Rockies starter German Marquez struck out a season-high 10 batters before leaving the scoreless game in the top of the seventh with what the team said was full-body cramping.

Marquez had allowed just two hits before leaving and reached double digits in strikeouts for the ninth time in his career. He was matched by Los Angeles starter Hyun-Jin Ryu, who tossed six scoreless innings and gave up just three hits.

Ryu lowered his ERA to 1.66, which is the best in the majors.

The game started 49 minutes before the trade deadline and entered the fourth inning scoreless when the deadline passed. The Rockies acquired reliever Joe Harvey from the New York Yankees for pitcher Alfredo Garcia and minor league outfielder Jimmy Herron from the Chicago Cubs for international cap money.

The Dodgers traded for St. Louis infielder Jedd Gyorko for lefty Tony Cingrani and minor league right-hander Jeffry Abreu. They also acquired left-handed reliever Adam Kolarek from Tampa Bay for a minor league pitcher.

Gyorko, who is currently on the 60-day injured list, is eligible to come off next week.

The Rockies had a scoring chance in the third inning but Tony Wolters was thrown out at home to end the inning.

The Dodgers loaded the bases in the eighth but Max Muncy flied out to end the threat.
