Chris Davis snapped out of an 0-for-18 drought with a solo home run to center field with one out in the eighth inning Tuesday afternoon to break a 5-5 tie and lead the visiting Baltimore Orioles to an 8-5 victory over the Padres at San Diego.

Davis, who had struck out three previous times in the game and 14 times in his last 16 at-bats, drove an 0-1 offering from Matt Strahm for his eighth homer.

Strahm (4-8) was charged with two more runs in the inning and a total of five runs on five hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. The Padres held a 5-3 lead when he entered the game to start the seventh.

Reliever Miguel Castro (1-1) was credited with the win, and Shawn Armstrong earned his third save. Castro and Armstrong held the Padres scoreless on one hit over the final three innings.

After Davis homered, Richie Martin drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on Jonathan Villar's single. Villar then stole second ahead of Trey Mancini greeting rookie reliever Michel Baez with a two-run single.

The Orioles scored twice in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 5 after trailing since San Diego's three-run first. Pinch hitter Hanser Alberto started the rally with a single and reached third on Anthony Santander's two-out double. Renato Nunez then tied the score with a two-run single to center.

The Padres started the game the same way they did Monday night, with rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. hitting a game-opening homer, his 19th of the season.

With one out, Manny Machado then homered off Orioles starter and San Diego County native Tom Eshelman. Eric Hosmer followed with a single and scored on Wil Myers' double.

The hosts upped their lead to 4-0 in the third, when Machado scored on a Francisco Mejia fielder's choice.

The Orioles got on the board with three runs in the fourth off Padres starter Dinelson Lamet, the key hits a run-scoring single by Jace Peterson and a bases-loaded, two-out, two-run single by Martin.

Mejia singled home an unearned run in the fifth to give the Padres a 5-3 lead.
