Paul DeJong collected a season-high four RBIs as the St. Louis Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-2 win over the host Texas Rangers on Saturday.

The Cardinals scored more runs Saturday than they did during their losing streak, during which they were outscored 21-6 by the Rangers and Atlanta Braves. St. Louis ended a three-game winning streak for Texas.

DeJong opened the scoring with an RBI groundout in the third against Rangers starter Ariel Jurado. The shortstop delivered the big hit in a decisive five-run fifth inning when he greeted reliever Jeanmar Gomez with a two-run double to extend the Cardinals' lead to 4-0.

DeJong added a solo homer in the ninth to reach four RBIs for the third time as a big leaguer and the first time since he racked up a career-high five against the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 31.

Matt Carpenter hit a run-scoring double in the fourth against Jurado, while Jose Martinez (single) and Yadier Molina (groundout) each had RBIs against Gomez in the inning.

Marcell Ozuna added an RBI single in the seventh. Carpenter, Molina and Harrison Bader each had two hits.

Dakota Hudson (3-3) earned his first win of the month after allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking two, in six innings. He has a 3.13 ERA in four May starts.

John Gant allowed one hit over two scoreless innings before Carlos Martinez made his season debut with a hitless ninth. Martinez, who made the National League All-Star team as a starting pitcher in 2015 and 2017, had been sidelined with a right shoulder injury.

The Rangers scored both their runs against Hudson in the fifth, when Isiah Kiner-Falefa laced an RBI double and scored two outs later on Willie Calhoun's groundout.

Kiner-Falefa and Ronald Guzman had two hits each.

Jurado (1-2), who was making his first start of the season, allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four.

The start of the game was delayed by rain for two hours and 11 minutes.
