Nolan Arenado homered in a third straight game, and Jon Gray continued his mastery of the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night as the visiting Colorado Rockies scored an 8-2 victory to complete a two-game series sweep.

Arenado's two-run homer in the first, which followed a single by Garrett Hampson, produced the first runs scored by the Rockies in the first inning this season. Colorado would score five runs in the first three innings against Padres left-handed rookie Nick Margevicius.

Meanwhile, Gray didn't allow a hit until Wil Myers led off the bottom of the fifth with his second homer in as many nights and his fifth of the season.

Gray (1-3) allowed one run on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. The Rockies also turned two double plays behind Gray, who has a 9-3 career record against the Padres, including eight wins in his last nine decisions dating back to Sept. 17, 2016.

Colorado extended its lead to 3-0 in the second inning on doubles by Tony Wolters and Charlie Blackmon. They scored two more in the third. Trevor Story singled and stole second. After a walk to Mark Reynolds, the runners pulled a double steal. Raimel Tapia then hit a two-run triple, and he added a third RBI on a ninth-inning groundout.

Margevicius (1-2), who had allowed a single run in each of his first three major league starts, gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in four innings.

Colorado's added a run on a seventh-inning homer by Hampson off Adam Warren, the first homer of Hampson's major league career.

Hampson, Arenado, Story, Tapia and Wolters each had two hits for the Rockies. Tapia contributed a double to go with his triple. Wolters had two doubles. Story stole three bases.

The Rockies have won three in a row coming off an eight-game losing streak that dropped them to 3-12. The Padres have lost three in a row following a four-game winning streak.
