Blake Snell struck out 11 as he pitched into the seventh inning without allowing a run to set a club record with 21 wins, and the visiting Tampa Bay Rays held on to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Snell (21-5) held the Blue Jays to three hits and two walks in his 6 2/3 scoreless innings, lowering his American League-leading ERA to 1.90. The left-hander had been tied for the single-season club record in wins with David Price, who won 20 in 2012.

C.J. Cron had a solo homer and an RBI double, and Brandon Lowe added a two-run homer as the Rays gained a split in the four-game series.

Sergio Romo pitched around two ninth-inning singles to earn his 23rd save of the season.

The Rays (87-68) lead 11-5 in the season series with the Blue Jays (71-85).

Toronto's Ryan Borucki (4-5) allowed two runs, three hits and four walks in seven innings. The left-hander struck out seven.

In the fourth inning, Tampa Bay's Tommy Pham singled, stole second, took third on a flyout and scored Joey Wendle's double for a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Jays had a threat in the fifth. Kevin Pillar reached first base on a throwing error by shortstop Wendle but was caught trying to steal second. Teoscar Hernandez and Danny Jansen walked with Hernandez stealing third before Richard Urena struck out to end the inning.

The Rays took a 2-0 lead in the sixth. Pham walked, Matt Duffy sacrificed him to second, and Cron doubled him home.

Snell had two strikeouts in the seventh around a single by Pillar before reliever Chaz Roe finished the inning with a groundout.

Joe Biagini allowed Cron's 28th homer in the eighth. Jose Fernandez entered and allowed a walk and Lowe's sixth homer of the season to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Toronto scored twice against Andrew Kittredge in the bottom of the eighth. Jansen and Urena singled to open the inning. One run scored on a groundout by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and the other scored on a single by Aledmys Diaz. Rays reliever Ryne Stanek got the final out of the inning.
