Phillies 10, Padres 5:
Carlos Ruiz reached base five times and plated three runs while Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as host Philadelphia routed San Diego.

Ruiz went 3-for-3 and smacked a two-run double in a six-run first inning as the Phillies downed the Padres for the second straight night. Philadelphia collected 14 hits while wrapping up a 6-3 homestand.

San Diego’s Will Venable led off the game with a homer off Roy Halladay before the Phillies bombarded Tyson Ross (3-8) in the bottom of the first. Chase Utley singled in a run prior to Ruiz’s double and Hernandez capped the splurge with a two-run double.

Rollins drew a bases-loaded walk in the third to make it 7-1, but San Diego struck four times in the fifth. Halladay walked the first four batters and was removed after making a throwing error on Tommy Medica’s run-scoring infield single. He was charged with five runs (four earned), four hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Philadelphia struck twice in the fifth on Utley’s sacrifice fly and Ruiz’s single for a 9-5 lead, and Darin Ruf added a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Five relievers combined for 4 2/3 hitless innings, with Justin De Fratus (3-3) getting two outs in the fifth for the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ross allowed six runs and five hits in two-thirds of an inning. … Rollins made a throwing error in the ninth for his first miscue in 45 games. … Former Padres closer Trevor Hoffman was named the franchise’s upper-level pitching coordinator and special assistant to general manager Josh Byrnes.
