Jose Abreu had three hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three runs, rookie Dylan Cease recorded his second career victory and the Chicago White Sox topped the host Detroit Tigers 5-3 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday.

Abreu has 24 homers and 81 RBIs. Welington Castillo hit his sixth homer this season. Castillo, Tim Anderson and Ryan Goins contributed two hits apiece.

Cease (2-4) lasted five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Three relievers did the rest, with Alex Colome collecting his 22nd save.

Tigers starter Daniel Norris (3-9) gave up four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Jake Rogers hit his second career homer for Detroit, which has lost five straight. Harold Castro had two hits and an RBI.

The White Sox have won seven of 10 games against their Central Division rival this season.

Abreu completed an 11-pitch at-bat with a liner over the right field fence to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead in the first.

Detroit loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning but didn't score. Dawel Lugo hit into a fielder's choice and John Hicks lined out.

Chicago made it 2-0 in the second when Goins ripped a triple to deep center and Adam Engel followed with a double.

Detroit scored in the third on Brandon Dixon's triple and Niko Goodrum's groundout.

Rogers tied it the fourth by lifting a Cease offering over the left-center field wall.

A two-out run put the White Sox back on top in the fifth. Ryan Cordell led off with a single, moved up on a sacrifice and a fly out, then scored on Abreu's double to right.

Castillo led off the sixth with a 420-foot homer to left. Chicago left two runners stranded in the inning and once again in the eighth.

Consecutive singles by Leury Garcia, Anderson and Abreu gave the White Sox a three-run cushion in the ninth.

Castro's RBI single in the bottom of the inning completed the scoring.
