Hunter Dozier capped a three-RBI performance with a tie-breaking single in the seventh inning Wednesday night, sending the Kansas City Royals to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Oakland Athletics.

Dozier and Ryan O'Hearn hit home runs, helping the Royals rally from a pair of two-run deficits in a game in which A's star Matt Chapman had to leave the game after getting hit in the helmet by a Jakob Junis pitch.

Chapman's injury, which occurred in the first inning, did not appear to be serious, and he was initially able to stay in the game. He scored Oakland's second run of the first inning on a fielder's-choice grounder by Seth Brown.

Chapman took the field for the bottom of the first and batted in the second, lining out to center field, but was pulled from the game before the bottom of the frame.

Thanks to homers by Marcus Semien and Mark Canha, the A's held leads of 2-0 and 4-2 before the Royals did all the game's scoring in the final 4 1/2 innings.

Jorge Soler got Kansas City within 4-3 with an RBI double in the fifth, and O'Hearn led off the sixth with his 10th homer, tying the game.

Nicky Lopez set the table for the decisive seventh with an infield hit off A's reliever Blake Treinen (6-5), being ruled safe upon review after initially called out at first. A single by Whit Merrifield and walk to Soler loaded the bases for Dozier, who singled in Lopez with the eventual game-winning run.

Jake Diekman relieved Treinen and got Alex Gordon to ground into a double play, but Merrifield scored on the play, increasing the lead to 6-4.

The Royals' bullpen took care of things from there, with closer Ian Kennedy surviving a two-on, two-out situation in the ninth by getting Robbie Grossman to fly out for his 23rd save.

Tim Hill (2-0), who pitched two scoreless innings, was credited with the win.

Neither starter got a decision, with Oakland's Tanner Roark allowing four runs and five hits in six innings, while Junis was charged with four runs on seven hits in six innings. Roark walked one and struck out four; Junis walked one and struck out five.

Dozier's homer, which got the Royals even at 2-2 in the third, was his 23rd of the season.

Merrifield and O'Hearn joined Dozier with two hits apiece for the Royals, who had lost the first two games of the series 19-4 and 2-1.

Semien had his 24th homer and Canha his 23rd for the A's, who saw their three-game road winning streak come to an end. Semien and Grossman had two hits each for Oakland, which was out-hit 9-8 by the Royals.
