Marcus Stroman pitched six scoreless innings, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had three hits and an outfield assist and the visiting Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-1 Sunday afternoon.

Eric Sogard added a home run and Danny Jansen had a two-run single for the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays won the three-game series -- their fourth series win on the road this season -- despite losing the opener, and they have six wins in their past 12 games after going 2-11.

Despite losing two in a row, the Red Sox are 8-3 in their past 11 games.

Stroman (5-9) struck out six while holding the Red Sox to five hits and a walk.

Boston starter Rick Porcello (5-7) allowed five runs, eight hits, and four walks in six innings. The right-hander struck out two.

The Blue Jays scored in the second on a two-out double by Rowdy Tellez and a single by Brandon Drury.

Gurriel picked up his fifth outfield assist in the bottom of the second inning when he threw out Brock Holt at home as he tried to score on Jackie Bradley Jr.'s single to left. Holt left the game in the fourth inning with an apparent hamstring injury as the result of the play.

The Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead in the third when Gurriel singled with two outs and slid safely home on Cavan Biggio's double to center.

The Blue Jays added three runs in the sixth. Biggio walked, took third on a double by Freddy Galvis and scored on a balk. Tellez was intentionally walked and Drury walked to load the bases. Jansen grounded a two-run single past third.

Josh Smith, who replaced Porcello, pitched around a double and a walk in the seventh, allowed Sogard's eighth homer of the season in the eighth and tossed a perfect ninth.

Tim Mayza pitched around a hit batsman and had two strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh after replacing Stroman and David Phelps overcame a leadoff single in the eighth.

Joe Biagini allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth. Eduardo Nunez doubled and scored on Biagini's error as he covered first on Bradley's grounder to first.
