Left-hander Logan Allen allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings in his major league debut Tuesday night as the San Diego Padres defeated the visiting Milwaukee Brewers 4-1.

Allen (1-0) also got his first big-league hit in the fifth inning and scored the game's first run.

Francisco Mejia, who last week was catching Allen at Triple-A El Paso, hit a two-run homer for the Padres.

Allen, 22, issued two walks and hit a batter while striking out five. He threw 90 pitches, 56 of them strikes. The Padres turned three double plays in the first six innings behind Allen, who ended his outing in style, striking out all three batters in the seventh.

Kirby Yates picked up his 26th save, tying the Padres' record (set by Heath Bell in 2011) for most saves before the All-Star break. Yates has yet to allow a run in a save situation this season.

Allen and Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff battled to a scoreless draw through 4 1/2 innings. The Padres scored two in the fifth, then added two more in the sixth on Mejia's first homer of the season -- a 404-foot drive to right-center on an 0-2 fastball from Woodruff.

Allen singled to right with one out in the fifth. He moved to second on a walk to Greg Garcia and took third when Fernando Tatis Jr. singled to load the bases.

Eric Hosmer then hit an opposite-field line drive that Brewers third baseman Mike Moustakas gloved while diving to his right. But Moustakas threw wildly to first trying to double up Tatis, and Allen scored from third on the error. Manny Machado then hit a ground-rule double to right-center to score Garcia.

Moustakas departed the game an inning after his throwing error due to a contusion to his left hand.

Woodruff (8-2) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings.

After going 16 consecutive innings without a run against the Padres, the Brewers finally scored in the eighth off Trey Wingenter. Jesus Aguilar drew a leadoff walk, moved to third on back-to-back groundouts and came home on a wild pitch.
