Carlos Gomez and Pete Alonso homered, Steven Matz tossed six solid innings, and the host New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Saturday night.

Gomez, Todd Frazier and Wilson Ramos had two hits each, and Edwin Diaz pitched the ninth for his 14th save for the Mets.

Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon had RBIs for the Rockies, who fell to 2-3 on their six-game road trip.

Matz (5-4) allowed three runs -- two earned -- and struck out 10 before leaving after 120 pitches. He got the best of Rockies starter Jon Gray (5-5), who fanned eight but allowed four runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.

The game was tied 3-all entering the sixth, when the Mets went on top. Ramos led off with a double, moved to third on Frazier's single and scored on a double play to give New York the lead.

New York extended the lead in the seventh when Alonso homered. The ball hit the top of the wall in left and bounced back but was confirmed on an umpire review.

It was his 21st home run of the season.

The Mets took the early lead on Gray. Frazier started the second with a walk as he was hit by a pitch, moved to second base on a wild pitch and scored on Gomez's homer to center field. It was his second of the season to make it 2-0.

The Rockies came right back to tie it in the third inning. Tony Wolters led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Gray. Blackmon, who returned from the 10-day injured list on Friday, singled to left to score Wolters.

Trevor Story singled, and David Dahl hit into a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. Arenado singled to drive in Blackmon.

The Mets got one back in the bottom of the inning with a two-out rally. Michael Conforto walked, moved to third on a single by Ramos and scored on Frazier's single. The Rockies tied it when Frazier's throwing error in the fourth allowed Brendan Rodgers to score on Wolters' single.
