Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer, Brandon Woodruff won his seventh straight decision and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates 10-4 Friday night.

Braun hit his first homer since May 14 by connecting on a low, full-count fastball from Nick Kingham and sent it well over the center field fence to give Milwaukee a 7-3 lead in the sixth.

It was Braun's 10th homer of the season, making this the 12th season he reached double-digits in homers -- breaking a tie with Hall of Famer of Robin Yount for the most in team history.

Woodruff (8-1) allowed three runs on four hits in six innings. He matched a career high with 10 strikeouts and walked one in a 99-pitch outing.

Woodruff improved to 7-0 in his last 10 starts since April 16 by rebounding nicely from last weekend in Pittsburgh when he allowed six runs on 10 hits in a no-decision in a game Milwaukee eventually won 12-10.

Woodruff struck out five of the first six hitters he faced Friday and ended his outing by getting Josh Bell on a foul tip for his final strikeout.

The Brewers beat the Pirates for the fourth time in five meetings this season and scored at least 10 runs for the eighth time this season -- and third instance against Pittsburgh, all in their last five meetings.

Milwaukee built a 3-0 lead in the second on a two-run homer by Eric Thames and a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Christian Yelich.

Adam Frazier hit an RBI triple and Bryan Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 15 games with run-scoring doubles in the third and the eighth but the Pirates struck out 14 times and were unable to win their third straight game.

The Brewers took a 4-2 lead in the fourth when Yelich reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on a base hit by Mike Moustakas.

Kevin Newman hit the first pitch of the sixth over the left field fence to make it a one-run game, but Woodruff easily finished the inning and the Brewers surged ahead.

After Braun homered, the Brewers added three runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Travis Shaw and a two-run single by Lorenzo Cain.

Rookie Davis (0-1) became the 11th starting pitcher used by the Pirates and allowed three runs on four hits in three innings. He walked five and struck out two, throwing 76 pitches in his first start since Sept. 20, 2017 when he pitched for Cincinnati.
