Jake Arrieta pitched eight-plus solid innings, Scott Kingery and Cesar Hernandez each homered and the host Philadelphia Phillies defeated the New York Mets 3-2 on Wednesday.

J.T. Realmuto had two hits for the Phillies, who played without shortstop Jean Segura due to a strained left hamstring.

Arrieta (3-1) allowed six hits and two runs and induced the Mets into 12 ground-ball outs. He walked two and struck out three.

Hector Neris earned the shaky save despite allowing an RBI single and hitting Wilson Ramos. Neris struck out Keon Broxton swinging on a 3-2 count with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Jeff McNeil had two hits to extend his streak with multiple hits to a career-best sixth consecutive game. In addition, McNeil now has an eight-game hitting streak.

Michael Conforto also had two hits, including a solo home run, for the Mets. Center fielder Brandon Nimmo sat out with a stiff neck, which caused him to leave Tuesday's game in the first inning

Mets starter Zack Wheeler (1-2) threw seven innings and gave up five hits and three runs. Wheeler struck out five and walked three.

The Phillies loaded the bases with one out in the second inning and went ahead 1-0 when Maikel Franco lofted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Realmuto.

In the third, the Phillies loaded the bases again, this time with two outs. Wheeler then struck out Odubel Herrera swinging.

Herrera left the game in the fifth with an apparent leg injury and was replaced by Aaron Altherr.

The Mets managed just two hits through the five innings -- singles by McNeil and Conforto.

Kingery stayed red hot with a solo homer in the fifth for a 2-0 Phillies lead. Kingery entered the game on an 11-for-17 tear.

Hernandez ripped a solo shot off Wheeler in the sixth for a 3-0 advantage.

Conforto sliced the lead to 3-1 with a mammoth solo homer to right in the seventh.

In the ninth, Pete Alonso chased Arrieta with a leadoff single, and Adam Morgan hit Robinson Cano to put runners on first and second with no outs.

After a Conforto flyout, Neris entered for Morgan and struck out J.D. Davis, but Amed Rosario managed an RBI infield single to cut the lead to 3-2. Neris then hit Ramos before striking out Broxton.
