Ryan McMahon homered and singled, Jake Cave also had two hits and the Colorado Rockies beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 in Denver on Monday.

Jake Bird (2-2), recalled from Triple-A earlier in the day, got the win with an inning of scoreless relief. Tyler Kinley struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to earn his seventh save.

Jesus Sanchez, Kyle Stowers and Nick Fortes had two hits each for Miami, which has lost eight of its last 10. Griffin Conine, the son of former Marlin Jeff Conine, made his major league debut as a pinch hitter in the ninth and struck out.

The game was tied 2-2 before McMahon led off the home sixth with his 17th homer off the season. Miami starter Edward Cabrera subsequently issued a one-out walk before he was replaced by Kent Emanuel.

Cabrera (2-8) allowed three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked two.

Colorado had lost four of its previous five games. Miami fell for the sixth time in seven games.

Both starters were sharp early. Rockies right-hander Ryan Feltner, making his return from a three-week absence caused by a right shoulder strain, held Miami scoreless through the first four innings. He gave up a leadoff single to Fortes in the third, but Fortes was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

Cabrera struck out four of the first six batters he faced and didn't give up a hit until Cave singled leading off the bottom of the fourth. Cave was out on a steal attempt when Brendan Rodgers was called for batter interference.

Miami broke through in the fifth. With one out, Fortes and Connor Norby singled and Jake Burger walked to load the bases. Sanchez followed with a two-run single to left to open the scoring.

The Rockies answered in the bottom of the inning with consecutive singles from Sam Hilliard and Jordan Beck, a run-scoring groundout from Aaron Schunk and an RBI single by Cave.

Feltner left after giving up two runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked two and fanned two. Feltner has not earned a win in 21 straight starts dating back to mid-April.
