Luis Campusano homered and singled, Manny Machado had four hits and the streaking San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 8-3 in Denver on Saturday night.
Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim and Bryce Johnson had two hits apiece to back another solid start from Padres right-hander Dylan Cease. San Diego has won 20 of 25 games to start the second half of the season.
Michael Toglia homered for Colorado, which honored Hall of Fame inductee Todd Helton before and during the game.
The Padres went in front in the second inning when Machado led off with a double, Jake Cronenworth followed with an RBI single and Campusano later drove in Cronenworth with a groundout.
San Diego added on in the fourth after Rockies starter Kyle Freeland retired the first two batters of the inning. David Peralta walked and Campusano, Johnson and Jurickson Profar then hit consecutive singles, resulting in two more runs and a 4-0 lead.
Cronenworth made it 5-0 with a run-scoring groundout in the fifth.
Freeland (3-5) allowed the five runs on eight hits in five innings. He walked three and fanned three.
The Padres made it 7-0 in the sixth after two errors opened the door for a couple of runs off of reliever Peter Lambert. Johnson grounded into a forceout to bring home the first run of the frame, and Bogaerts singled home the second.
The Rockies didn't get a hit off Cease until Ezequiel Tovar led off the fourth with a single, and they later drew a pair of walks in the fifth but couldn't score. Colorado finally broke through in the sixth on Brendan Rodgers' run-scoring double-play ball and a two-run shot from Toglia, pulling the Rockies within 7-3.
That was all for Cease (12-9), who allowed three runs on three hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings. Cease struck out five.
Campusano opened the eighth with a solo shot, his eighth homer of the year, to complete the scoring.
