Manny Machado highlighted San Diego's seven-run eighth inning with a tiebreaking two-run single as the Padres blew past the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 8-3 on Saturday night.

The Dodgers, who won Friday night's series opener by coming from behind with a five-run eighth, led the Padres 3-1 going into the bottom of the eighth on Saturday.

Facing Los Angeles reliever Yency Almonte, Gary Sanchez opened with a single off the glove of third baseman Chris Taylor. After Trent Grisham struck out, Almonte issued back-to-back walks to load the bases and was removed in favor of lefty Caleb Ferguson.

The Padres tied the score when Juan Soto topped an infield single to the right side. Sanchez scored from third, and Ha-Seong Kim scored as well when Dodgers second baseman Enrique Hernandez threw wildly to first. The play left runners at second and third.

Machado, who earlier hit his 21st homer for the Padres' first run, then lined a single to left, scoring them both to make it 5-3. Jake Cronenworth followed with an RBI single, and Grisham closed the scoring with a two-run single off Alex Vesia.

Nick Martinez (5-2) worked two scoreless innings and picked up the win. Almonte (3-2) took the loss.

The Dodgers had won six straight games against the Padres, and led Saturday's game 3-1 after scoring three times off left-hander Blake Snell. In five innings, Snell gave up four hits and four walks with eight strikeouts. It was the most runs he surrendered since May 19.

The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the first on Will Smith's homer. The Dodgers added single runs in the second and the fifth.

In the second, Taylor drew a walk, stole second and third and scored on Hernandez's sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Mookie Betts doubled, moved to third on Soto's fielding error in left field and scored on Freddie Freeman's single.
