Kyle Schwarber hit the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the host Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-4 win over the San Diego Padres in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

Schwarber also homered and joined Brandon Marsh in knocking in two runs for the Phillies, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Philadelphia starter Ranger Suarez tossed six innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Matt Strahm (6-3) earned the win in relief despite permitting one run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Craig Kimbrel worked around two walks in a scoreless ninth to secure his 15th save in 15 chances. Manny Machado flied out to shallow right field to end the game as second baseman Bryson Stott caught the ball while colliding with outfielder Nick Castellanos.

Trent Grisham hit a home run and drove in three runs and Machado also went deep for the Padres. Machado's homer in the top of the 8th marked the 300th of his career.

Ha-Seong Kim added three hits and Xander Bogaerts added two for the Padres, who saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt.

Padres starter Blake Snell gave up three hits and struck out seven over five scoreless innings. He extended his scoreless streak to 21 innings.

Tim Hill (1-3) took the loss in relief after yielding three runs (two earned) on four hits in one-third of an inning.

Machado crushed a solo home run to left off Strahm to lead off the eighth to give the Padres a 4-3 advantage.

Bryce Harper came in to pinch hit in the eighth and produced an RBI infield single to forge a tie. Schwarber followed with an RBI single to center and Trea Turner added an RBI single for a 6-4 advantage.

The Padres went ahead 3-0 in the second after Grisham belted a three-run home run to right-center field. Before Grisham came up, Matthew Batten hit a soft grounder to shortstop Turner, who opted to flip the ball behind his back to second instead of throwing to first. Edmundo Sosa dropped the ball, allowing Grisham to come to the plate.

Castellanos grounded out with the bases loaded to end the fifth. Snell's pitch actually bounced off the dirt and then ricocheted off Castellanos' bat.

Marsh lofted a two-run double to left off Steven Wilson in the sixth to slice the deficit to 3-2.

Schwarber launched a mammoth 440-foot solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.
