Jose Abreu and Luis Robert logged back-to-back RBI hits in the 10th inning as the Chicago White Sox came from behind for a 3-1 win over the host Boston Red Sox on Saturday.
Leury Garcia's sacrifice fly erased the 1-0 lead that Boston held from the fifth inning on, and the White Sox went on to win their fifth consecutive game.
The Red Sox had a chance to walk off in the ninth after Jackie Bradley Jr. lined a one-out single to left and Christian Vazquez's double into the left-center gap. Both, however, were stranded as Bobby Dalbec struck out looking and Trevor Story popped up.
Chicago wasted no time taking the lead in the 10th as Abreu ripped an RBI double to center and scored on Robert's single.
Tim Anderson, Abreu, Robert and Garcia all had two hits each for Chicago. Reynaldo Lopez (4-0) won in relief and Liam Hendriks logged his ninth save.
Nick Pivetta turned in his best performance of the season for the Red Sox, striking out eight over six innings of five-hit, shutout ball.
Reliever Hansel Robles issued a costly leadoff walk to Jake Burger in the ninth. After Adam Engel doubled, Garcia hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Burger.
Matt Barnes (0-3) took the loss as Boston fell to 0-6 in extra innings.
Rafael Devers went 2-for-4 with the lone Boston RBI.
The Red Sox were held to two hits over the first four innings -- both in the first -- against Chicago starter Dylan Cease before doubling that total and scoring first in the fifth inning.
Devers delivered an opposite-field double off the Green Monster that scored Franchy Cordero, who hit a one-out single to left and moved ahead on Story's walk.
Boston worked Cease's pitch count to 101 pitches in five innings. The righty struck out eight and exited after allowing the single run on four hits and three walks.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora was ejected for arguing a called third strike on Story in the third inning. The second baseman was called out after watching a borderline pitch from Cease at the top of the strike zone.
