The second game of split doubleheader between visiting San Diego and the Atlanta Braves was suspended after 4 1/2 innings Wednesday with the Padres leading 5-4.

Rain began to fall at Truist Park in the top of the fifth, and the tarp was brought on to cover the infield before the bottom of the inning started. After a delay of nearly three hours, the umpires made the decision to suspend play.

There was no announcement about when the game would be finished. The Braves and Padres play a three-game series in San Diego from Sept. 24-26.

The Padres won the first game 3-2 to even the three-game series at a game apiece.

Neither starting pitcher was around for very long in the nightcap.

Atlanta's Bryse Wilson, making his first major league appearance since June 20, pitched two innings and allowed five runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

San Diego's Reiss Knehr, making his second career start, threw 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on one hit and two walks with one strikeout.

The Padres jumped on Wilson with a four-run outburst in the first inning. Eric Hosmer drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on a wild pitch and Ha-Seong Kim doubled home two runs.

San Diego expanded the lead to 5-0 when Jake Cronenworth singled home Trent Grisham in the second.

The Braves got back in the game with a four-run rally in the bottom of the second against Knehr. Guillermo Heredia drove in the first run with his 22nd double, Orlando Arcia followed with a sacrifice fly, Ehire Adrianza doubled in a run and Joc Pederson added an RBI single.

Atlanta reliever Josh Tomlin replaced Wilson and threw two scoreless innings, and Jesse Chavez followed with one shutout frame.

San Diego's Daniel Camarena, in relief of Knehr, allowed one run on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning. Nabil Crismatt pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Tim Hill induced a double play on the only pitch he threw.
