Giancarlo Stanton and Gio Urshela each hit a two-run homer and the visiting New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 8-4 on Thursday night in Buffalo to sweep a three-game series.
The Yankees took control with a four-run seventh inning in which Stanton homered and Chris Gittens hit a two-run, pinch-hit single. Gittens finished with three RBIs, including a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Yankees starter Michael King allowed three runs, five hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.
Toronto's T.J. Zeuch, recalled from Triple-A on Thursday, allowed three runs (two earned), five hits and two walks in three innings.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit into 1-3-6-2-5-6 triple play in the first. King fielded Guerrero's grounder to get the out at first, Marcus Semien was caught between third and home and Bo Bichette was out at third.
It was the Yankees' second triple play this season.
The Yankees scored once in the second. Urshela doubled, took third on Brett Gardner's infield hit and scored on Zeuch's errant throw to second on Miguel Andujar's grounder.
The Yankees led 3-0 in the third after Stanton singled and Urshela hit his eighth homer of the season.
Toronto scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Santiago Espinal walked and scored on Reese McGuire's double. Semien singled and McGuire scored on Bichette's fielder's choice grounder.
Lucas Luetge replaced King after Espinal's infield single in the fifth and allowed McGuire's double on a fly to left, which was misplayed by Andujar. Semien's RBI groundout tied the game.
Guerrero singled to open the sixth against Luetge. Chad Green (1-4) took over. After a passed ball, Randal Grichuk's RBI single gave Toronto a 4-3 lead. Right fielder Aaron Judge limited the damage by reaching above the wall to rob Cavan Biggio of a two-run homer.
The Yankees regained the lead in the seventh against Anthony Castro (1-2) when Stanton hit his 13th homer of the season, after Rougned Odor had singled. Sanchez and Urshela singled, advanced on Gardner's sacrifice and scored when Gittens singled against Tim Mayza.
Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres (back tightness) left after three innings.
The Blue Jays were without Teoscar Hernandez (paternity leave).
