Yu Darvish struck out 10 over seven shutout innings and Manny Machado supplied all the support the right-hander needed with a two-run homer in the first inning as the host San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-0 Monday night.

The Padres won their fourth straight game and seventh in their past eight. Nabil Crismatt pitched the final two innings and struck out two.

Darvish (4-1) gave up the Rockies' four hits and did not walk a batter. The Padres improved to 8-1 in his nine starts.

Darvish lowered his ERA from 2.08 to 1.81. Over his past eight starts, Darvish has given up eight runs (seven earned) on 27 hits and 12 walks with 63 strikeouts for a 1.26 ERA and a 0.780 WHIP.

The Padres started quickly as Trent Grisham opened the bottom of the first with a triple to right-center. Machado followed with his sixth homer of the season, just reaching the stands in left over the leap of Colorado left fielder Raimel Tapia.

The Padres added another run before the inning was over. Jake Cronenworth singled and scored on the first of two errors by Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray (4-4). Gray gave up all seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and a walk with a strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

The Padres scored in the fourth on a leadoff walk to Brian O'Grady, a single by Jurickson Profar and a two-run, opposite-field double by Victor Caratini.

Profar, who was activated from MLB's COVID-19 protocol list just before game time, singled leading off the sixth, moved to third on Gray's wild pickoff throw and scored on a single by Ha-Seong Kim. A double-play removed Kim from the bases, but Darvish doubled later in the inning and scored on an error by shortstop Trevor Story.

The Padres also activated utilityman Jorge Mateo from the COVID-19 protocol list before Monday's game and said first baseman Eric Hosmer could be eligible to return Wednesday.
