Jason Heyward delivered a one-out RBI single in the 10th inning Thursday night for the host Chicago Cubs, who completed a three-game sweep of the New York Mets with a 4-3 win.

The Cubs entered the series with just 51 runs in 15 games but outscored the Mets 23-8 in the series.

The Mets appeared primed to put themselves in position to salvage the finale when they had a runner on third with none out and the bases loaded with one out in the top of the 10th against Dan Winkler (1-0). But Winkler got out of the jam by inducing Dominic Smith to hit into a 4-6-3 double play.

Javier Baez was placed at second to start the 10th and Matt Duffy was hit by the second pitch of the inning from Edwin Diaz (1-1). A David Bote bunt advanced the runners a base before Eric Sogard was intentionally walked. Heyward then singled on a 1-1 pitch.

Willson Contreras had an RBI single and Kris Bryant laced a two-run double in the third for the Cubs.

Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer in the fourth and J.D. Davis tied the game with a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh for the Mets. Smith had two hits.

Mets starter Joey Lucchesi struck out five of the first seven batters he faced before he walked Jake Marisnick and opposing pitcher Trevor Williams. Marisnick went to third on a fly out by Ian Happ and scored on an infield single by Contreras before Bryant delivered a two-run double.

The Mets pulled within a run in the fourth, when Smith hit a leadoff double and Alonso followed with his second prodigious homer in as many nights. New York tied the game in the seventh when Jonathan Villar was hit by a pitch and raced home on the one-out double by Davis.

Lucchesi allowed three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five over three innings. Williams gave up two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings.
