Giancarlo Stanton homered and had an RBI double and James Paxton allowed an unearned run in six innings as the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Stanton doubled to drive in Aaron Judge and then scored on Mike Ford's RBI single in the fourth for the Yankees' first two runs.

In the sixth, Stanton hammered an 0-1 changeup from Brock Stewart into the bleachers in deep left field to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. It was the slugger's second homer of the season and it came in his third game after missing 73 games with a sprained right knee.

Stanton had his third multi-hit game this season after striking out on a called strike three in the first. Stanton objected to the call by plate umpire Jeremie Rehak. Manager Aaron Boone, also upset by the call, was ejected by third-base umpire Joe West in between the bottom of the first and top of the second.

Paxton (15-6) won his career-high 10th straight start as he continued a turnaround from a slow start. He allowed three hits, struck out seven, walked none and threw 26 curveballs among his 87 pitches.

During his streak, Paxton has a 2.25 ERA to lower his ERA from 4.72 to 3.73. He also has struck out 68 hitters and allowed 35 hits in 60 innings since losing July 26 in Boston.

Clint Frazier added an RBI double in the sixth when the Yankees scored four times. Kyle Higashioka hit a two-run single in the inning.

Ford added another RBI single in the seventh.

The Yankees (101-55) entered 1 1/2 games behind Houston for the best record in the majors. The Astros were hosting the Los Angeles Angels later Saturday.

New York was without infielder Gleyber Torres (right hamstring), who underwent an MRI. The team said the tests came back negative.

Jonathan Davis hit an RBI single that scored Brandon Drury, who opened the third by reaching on a fielding error by shortstop Didi Gregorius. Teoscar Hernandez had an RBI double in the seventh for the Jays.

Toronto rookie T.J. Zeuch allowed two runs on four hits in four innings after beating the Yankees last Sunday. He allowed one runner through the first three innings before struggling with his sinker.
