David Freese and Justin Turner homered to lead the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers past the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 in a rain-delayed game that ended early Thursday morning.
Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda tossed two scoreless innings before he was replaced by Casey Sadler after a 2-hour, 37-minute delay.
Pedro Baez (4-2) pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings and earned the victory for the Dodgers, who have won two of three in this series. The finale will be played Thursday afternoon, less than 12 hours after the prior game ended.
The Dodgers' latest victory featured 16 walks, 10 issued by Phillies pitchers. Los Angeles' Max Muncy walked three times.
The Phillies managed just two hits, singles by Scott Kingery in the sixth inning and Adam Haseley in the ninth. Kingery also walked twice.
Philadelphia starter Nick Pivetta threw 50 pitches in 2 1/3 hitless innings before he was replaced by JD Hammer. Pivetta allowed one run on four walks with four strikeouts.
Juan Nicasio (1-3) took the loss after giving up two runs in the seventh inning.
Pivetta walked the bases loaded with one out in the top of the first inning, and A.J. Pollock delivered a sacrifice fly to right for a 1-0 Dodgers lead.
Following the rain delay, the game resumed in the top of the third inning at 10:37 p.m. ET.
Hammer worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth to keep the score 1-0.
The Phillies went the first five innings without a hit.
In the sixth, Dodgers reliever Julio Urias contributed an RBI single to score Enrique Hernandez for a 2-0 lead.
Philadelphia appeared to record its first hit leading off the bottom of the sixth, but Cesar Hernandez's grounder to third eluded Muncy and was ruled an error. Kingery then followed with a single off Urias. The Phillies loaded the bases with one out, and Brad Miller walked to force in a run.
Baez then came in for Urias, and Haseley hit an RBI grounder to tie the game at 2.
Freese crushed a two-run homer to right in the seventh off Nicasio, his ninth of the year, for a 4-2 Los Angeles lead.
Turner added a two-run, pinch-hit homer in the eighth for a 6-2 edge. It was Turner's 12th home run of the season.
