The Texas Rangers hit three solo homers in the fifth inning and Mike Minor pitched a complete game as they handed the host Detroit Tigers their sixth consecutive defeat 4-1 on Wednesday.

Willie Calhoun, Jeff Mathis and Danny Santana went deep against Tigers starter Matthew Boyd (5-6) to support Minor (8-4), who allowed one run on five hits and struck out seven. It was Minor's third career complete game and second of the season.

Calhoun also had two doubles and scored from second on a sacrifice fly.

Boyd recorded 11 strikeouts in seven innings, his fourth career double-digit strikeout performance. Brandon Dixon hit a solo homer for Detroit, which has lost 19 of its last 21 home games. Jeimer Candelario, called up from Triple-A Toledo before the game, added two hits.

Boyd struck out the side in the first inning, then struck out two more in the second.

The Rangers made stronger contact in the third and scored a run. Designated hitter Calhoun led off the inning with a liner that froze right fielder Nicholas Castellanos. It bounced off the wall and Calhoun raced to second on the double.

Ronald Guzman then hit a deep fly to center that JaCoby Jones tracked down. Jones banged into the wall and nearly fell to the ground, convincing third base coach Tony Beasley to wave Calhoun home. A weak relay helped Calhoun score from second.

Boyd then resumed the strikeout parade, punching out the next two batters.

Dixon tied it in the fourth with his team-high 10th homer. He lifted a Minor slider over the left-field wall.

The tie didn't last long as the Rangers slugged their way to a 4-1 lead in the fifth. Calhoun led off the inning with his fourth homer, which barely cleared the right field wall. One out later, Mathis drilled a fastball over the left field fence for his second homer of the season. With two down, Santana blasted his ninth long ball of the year, a slider into the left-center field bleachers.

Detroit had two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the inning but couldn't score.

Boyd struck out the side again in the seventh.

The Tigers had two baserunners in the ninth but the game ended on a double play.
