Austin Meadows hit the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning, C.J. Cron also had a solo shot and the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 on Saturday at St. Petersburg, Fla.
Tampa Bay starter Blake Snell struck out 10 in five innings, allowing one run, three hits and four walks, but did not factor in the decision.
A leading candidate for the American League Cy Young Award, the left-hander lowered his ERA to 1.89 for the season. He had won his nine previous starts.
Diego Castillo (4-2) allowed one run and struck out four in two innings to pick up the win.
Sergio Romo struck out three to earn his 25th save of the season despite allowing a pinch-hit home run to Reese McGuire (No. 2) with one out in the ninth. Rays pitchers had 18 strikeouts.
Teoscar Hernandez also hit a solo homer for the Blue Jays (73-88).
Toronto starter Ryan Borucki (4-6) allowed four runs, seven hits and three walks while striking out three in 6 2/3 innings.
The Blue Jays loaded the bases in the first inning on an infield single and two walks, and Rowdy Tellez hit a sacrifice fly. Snell allowed his third walk of the game to load the bases again. He finished the inning with his first of four straight strikeouts.
Cron tied the score when he led off the second inning with his career-best 30th homer of the season.
Castillo replaced Snell in the sixth inning and allowed the 22nd homer of the season by Hernandez with one out that gave Toronto a 2-1 lead.
The Rays (89-72) tied the score in the bottom of the sixth. Tommy Pham led off with a single, extending his streak of reaching base safely to 31 games. He stole second and scored on Brandon Lowe's two-out single.
Meadows hit his sixth homer of the season -- and his first for Tampa Bay -- with one out in the seventh to give the Rays a 3-2 lead. Borucki allowed a two-out double to Andrew Velazquez and was replaced by Tim Mayza, who allowed Mallex Smith's RBI single. Smith was out trying to stretch it for a double.
Chaz Roe pitched a perfect eighth for the Rays.
Toronto's David Paulino pitched around a single and a walk in the bottom of the eighth.
