Ian Desmond hit a home run and German Marquez gave up just two hits over eight innings as the visiting Colorado Rockies earned a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Marquez was the second consecutive Rockies starting pitcher to go eight innings against a Dodgers offense that set a franchise record with 55 home runs in June. Rockies left-hander Tyler Anderson went eight innings in Friday night's victory.

Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda gave up three runs (two earned) with nine strikeouts over seven innings in losing for the first time since May 29. It was his second consecutive start with nine strikeouts.

The Rockies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Nolan Arenado struck out but the ensuing passed ball allowed DJ LeMahieu to score from third base. Arenado was safe at first base, after the ball got past catcher Yasmani Grandal.

The Rockies upped the lead to 2-0 in the fifth on Desmond's home run, his 17th. It also marked a career-high 13 road home runs from Desmond, who hit 12 away from home in 2014 with the Nationals and 2016 with the Rangers.

Marquez, meanwhile was cruising. He retired the first 15 Dodgers batters of the game, one start after giving up six runs (five earned) in a loss to the Miami Marlins last Sunday.

Marquez also entered with a 5.53 ERA that was third worst in the National League among qualifiers. One pitcher worse than him was teammate Jon Gray, who was demoted to Triple-A on Saturday.

Marquez struck out at least one batter in each of the first five innings. He finally gave up a hit and a run when Enrique Hernandez hit a home run off the left-field foul pole to lead off the sixth inning. It was Hernandez's 14th home run of the season.

The Dodgers averaged at least two home runs per game during the month of June, but had just one home run, and one run total, in each of the last two games against the Rockies.

The Dodgers lost four of their past five games and three in a row, but still finished June with a 17-9 record.
