Zack Godley (9-5) earned the win, improving to 4-0 in his past four starts. He allowed six hits, four walks and two runs in five innings.

Marlins rookie Elieser Hernandez (0-5), making his first start in three-plus weeks, took the loss despite striking out the side in the fourth. He was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fourth with Miami trailing 2-1. He allowed four hits, two walks and two runs, striking out a career-high eight batters.

Miami manager Don Mattingly was in a luxury box for the night as he served a one-game league suspension that stemmed from his team's beanball war with the San Francisco Giants on June 19. Bench coach Tim Wallach replaced Mattingly for this game.

The Marlins, who had their three-game win streak snapped, were also without catcher and All-Star candidate J.T. Realmuto, who missed his second straight contest due to a swollen right wrist.

Arizona opened the scoring with two runs in the third.

Jon Jay, a former Miami Hurricanes star playing in his hometown, was grazed by a pitch on his right leg. Jay advanced on a long fly out to left and scored on Jake Lamb's double halfway up the wall in left. On the next pitch, David Peralta hit an RBI double that glanced off the glove of left fielder Derek Dietrich.

Miami cut its deficit to 2-1 in the fourth. JT Riddle hit a leadoff single, advanced on a groundout, took third on Lewis Brinson's single and scored on Bryan Holaday's RBI grounder. The Marlins, though, stranded the bases loaded when Dietrich struck out swinging at a low knuckle-curve.

Arizona stretched its lead to 4-1 in the fifth on Murphy's two-out, two-run double to left.

Miami got one back in the bottom of the fifth on Starlin Castro's fourth homer of the year. He pulled a 3-2 pitch to left for a solo blast.

Arizona was virtually gifted a run in the seventh. Paul Goldschmidt drew a four-pitch walk, advanced on a wild pitch and went to third on a fielding error by Castro at second. Murphy then drove in Goldschmidt with a sacrifice fly.

Miami, though, cut its deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and two runners on, Arizona's Ketel Marte -- who leads the league's second basemen in fielding percentage -- threw wide of first base on a Riddle grounder, and that throwing error allowed Brian Anderson to score from second.

The Marlins loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth against reliever Yoshihisa Hirano. But Hirano completed his 23rd consecutive scoreless outing by getting Justin Bour to fly out to center.

Brad Boxberger then pitched a perfect ninth for his 18th save of the season.
