SAN FRANCISCO -- Colorado Rockies right-hander Tyler Chatwood loves the fans at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

He even loves them when he hates them.

Constantly being reminded by the pesky Giants' faithful that he was pitching a perfect game Saturday, Chatwood retired the first 17 batters he faced and finished with the first shutout of his career in the Rockies' 5-0 victory.

"One of the best pitched games I've ever seen," Colorado manager Bud Black said. "It was old-school. Low pitch count (and) efficient. In this era ... that's great."

Nolan Arenado smacked his fourth home run of the season and also contributed a double and a single to an 11-hit attack as the Rockies won for the second time in three days to start the four-game series.

Chatwood (1-2), who had the best ERA (0.69) of all pitchers with two or more starts at AT&T Park last season, was better than ever in his first 2017 visit.

The 27-year-old California native took a perfect game two outs into the sixth inning before Giants replacement left fielder Chris Marrero stroked a single to right field.

"Yeah, I knew," Chatwood said of the ongoing perfect game. "I realized it because every time I stepped out of the dugout, the fans were yelling, 'Hope you blow it.'"

Marrero was playing because Jarrett Parker, the Giants' starting left fielder, suffered a broken right clavicle when he crashed into the left field fence while robbing DJ LeMahieu of extra bases in the fourth inning.

"He was pretty down," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Parker after X-rays had revealed the break. "This kid was getting a chance finally and it's a shame. Some kind of catch. I don't know how he hung onto the ball."

Only the second Rockies' pitcher ever to retire the game's first 17 batters, Chatwood bounced back from Marrero's hit to retire 10 of the final 12 batters he faced. Chatwood allowed only a seventh-inning single to Joe Panik and a ninth-inning walk to Denard Span.

He took pride in the fact he was able to finish what he started.

"It's cool," he said of the shutout. "The starting staff, we've been using the bullpen. To give them a break is nice.

"When (Hunter) Pence (the last batter) hit that ground ball (to second baseman LeMahieu), I didn't know what to do. I went over to give 'G' (catcher Dustin Garneau) a hug."

The complete game was just the second of Chatwood's six-year career. The only previous one came in a loss -- a 1-0 decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013.

Chatwood shared in four shutouts last season, including one on Sept. 28 at San Francisco in which he allowed just three hits in eight innings. He struck out four in his 105-pitch effort Saturday.

"This is a good place to pitch," Chatwood said of his success at AT&T Park. "The atmosphere is awesome."

Arenado gave his pitcher all the run support he needed with a solo shot into the left field bleachers in the third inning.

The homer was the 20th of Arenado's career against the Giants.

Charlie Blackmon's two-run single capped a three-run fourth off Giants left-hander Matt Moore (1-2) that gave the Rockies a 4-0 lead.

Stephen Cardullo's second of two hits drove in Colorado's final run in the fifth inning.

Moore was pulled two outs into the sixth, having allowed five runs and 10 hits. He walked three and struck out five.

Moore had entered the game with a 5-0 record and 1.50 ERA in his previous six starts at AT&T Park.

"That was the best stuff we've seen this season," Bochy said of Chatwood. "Pitching at 95, 96, 97 (mph) is (Madison) Bumgarner. His pitches had a lot of life to them. This was really good stuff we saw."

Arenado had a shot at a cycle in the ninth inning, needing a triple. But he flied to right field against the fourth Giants pitcher, left-hander Ty Blach.

NOTES: The only Rockies pitcher ever to take a perfect game farther than RHP Tyler Chatwood on Saturday was RHP Chad Bettis, who retired the first 18 Philadelphia Phillies on May 29, 2015. ... The only active players with more home runs against the Giants than 3B Nolan Arenado are RF Matt Kemp (23) and 1B Adrian Gonzalez (21). ... Rockies LF Gerardo Parra was on hand in Miami for the birth of daughter Aaliyah Victoria on Friday morning. He is expected to rejoin the team Tuesday in Los Angeles. ... The Giants had entered the game tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the most runs in the majors with 56. ...
