SEATTLE -- Chris Sale did everything an ace is supposed to do on Monday night, and the Chicago White Sox's offense broke out enough to put him in position for his American League-leading 15th win.

Seattle Mariners pinch hitter Adam Lind had another story in mind.

Lind spoiled Sale's latest gem with a three-run, walk-off home run against White Sox closer David Robertson in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Mariners a 4-3 win Monday.

"That's why you play," Lind said. "Moments like that are the best part of the season."

Unless you are Robertson and the White Sox. Chicago's closer was spitting mad after the loss, and he knew the blame belonged on no one's shoulders but his own.

"I didn't get the job done," said Robertson, who was handed a 3-0 lead to begin the ninth inning. "That was pathetic on my part. ... I pitched like (garbage) and screwed Sale out of the win. I screwed the whole team out of a win."

Sale threw eight shutout innings of one-hit ball, but it wasn't enough on a night when Seattle (47-46) scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

After Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager drove in Seattle's first run of the game with a two-out RBI single off Robertson, Lind came on to pinch-hit and delivered his second walk-off homer of the season. He hit an 0-1 pitch from Robertson (0-2) into the right field seats.

Sale walked three and struck out six in his first outing since starting for the American League in the All-Star Game. He left the game after eight innings with Chicago (45-47) leading 3-0.

"He was great," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "With the rest coming back from the All-Star break, he was good."

Chicago's struggling offense broke out for 11 hits, including home runs from Tim Anderson and Todd Frazier that accounted for all of the team's scoring. The White Sox took their fifth consecutive loss.

"We got a couple of homers to get us going," Ventura said. "We've still got a ways to go though."

Seattle starter Wade LeBlanc had a strong outing but couldn't match Sale. He allowed three runs on nine hits over seven innings.

Reliever David Rollins (1-0) earned the win after pitching a scoreless top of the ninth.

Gutierrez opened the bottom of the ninth with a single off Robertson.

Seattle eventually had two runners on and one out with Dae-Ho Lee at the plate, but the Korean slugger struck out. Seager singled up the middle, scoring Robinson Cano from second base, before Lind delivered the big blow, his 14th home run of the season.

"Our guys hung in there," Seattle manager Scott Servais said. "It wasn't looking so good, but that's why you play all 27 outs."

Servais wasn't overly surprised that Lind was the one who delivered in the clutch.

"Believe it or not, that was Lind's sixth three-run home run this year," he said. "That's hard to do. Seager, same thing. That's a lot of big hits."

Homers by Anderson and Frazier allowed the White Sox to jump out to a three-run lead over the first four innings.

Anderson, moved out of the leadoff spot after a rough series over the weekend, took out his frustration with a 441-foot home run to left field in his first at-bat. The upper-deck shot gave Chicago a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Frazier added his 26th home run of the season in the fourth, a two-run shot.

It seemed to be more than enough for Sale, who cruised through the first seven innings but hit two batters in the eighth. Ventura could see his command was waning, so he pulled his starter after 100 pitches.

"I just didn't want to send him out there for (Seattle's) fourth time around (in the batting order)," Ventura said.
