Padres 4, Nationals 3 (11): Cameron Maybin singled in Chase Headley with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning as San Diego rallied to beat Washington and even the series at a game apiece.

Headley singled with two outs and moved to second on Yonder Alonso’s walk before Maybin dumped a bloop single into right field to end it. Maybin finished with two hits and two RBIs, Alonso tied the game with his fifth homer in the ninth and Joaquin Benoit (2-0) pitched a scoreless 11th for the victory.

Ian Desmond belted a two-run homer while Ryan Zimmerman knocked in a run for the Nationals, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. Washington’s Craig Stammen (0-2) gave up three hits and a run over 1 2/3 innings to take the loss.

San Diego ended a 16-inning scoring drought in the fourth when Headley plated Seth Smith with a double and came home on Maybin’s two-out double to the left-field corner. Starter Andrew Cashner blanked the Nationals over six innings on two hits with five strikeouts, retiring the final 16 batters he faced.

Washington starter Blake Treinen allowed two runs in six innings before a Zimmerman RBI bloop double and Desmond’s two-run blast to center off Nick Vincent gave him a 3-2 lead in the seventh. Nationals’ closer Rafael Soriano got the first two outs in the ninth, but Alonso hit a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Padres selected Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel in the 28th round of the First-Year Player Draft on Saturday. Manziel played baseball in high school, but concentrated on football at Texas A&M where he won the Heisman Trophy. …. Washington 3B-2B Anthony Rendon was held out of the lineup with a sore right hand. … San Diego designated LHP Jason Lane for assignment to make room for Cashner, who returned from a sore right elbow that kept him out since May 13.
