Mets 3, Padres 1: Curtis Granderson homered in his return to the lineup and Carlos Torres tossed four solid innings in long relief as host New York won the rubber match of the three-game series.

Bobby Abreu ripped an RBI double and Daniel Murphy added a sacrifice fly for the Mets, who posted just their third win in 12 outings. Lucas Duda doubled twice to increase his total to four in the series.

Plagued by a calf injury, Granderson returned to the starting lineup after a three-game absence and deposited a 1-0 fastball from Ian Kennedy (5-8) into the second deck in right field to lead off the first inning. Abreu doubled the advantage in the first and the Mets answered Rene Rivera's RBI infield single in the second as Murphy plated Anthony Recker with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame.

Starter Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched one inning before exiting the contest with a severe upset stomach. Torres (3-4) allowed one run on three hits in the second before breezing through the next three innings and Jenrry Mejia retired all six batters he faced for his seventh save.

Kennedy yielded three runs on seven hits and a season-high four walks in 5 1/3 innings for San Diego, which suffered its 10th loss in 13 games in June.
