Nationals 3, Brewers 0: Adam LaRoche belted a three-run homer and Gio Gonzalez tossed six solid innings as visiting Washington posted its third straight victory.

Jayson Werth collected three hits and Ian Desmond and LaRoche added two apiece as the Nationals secured their fifth win in seven outings. The shutout was the ninth recorded by Washington's pitching staff this season.

Carlos Gomez (0-for-4) saw his career-best 18-game hitting streak come to a halt and failed to reach safely for the first time in 36 contests, ending the longest active run in the majors. Matt Garza (4-5) permitted three runs on five hits in seven innings to take the loss for the Brewers, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.

Washington drew first blood in the third inning as LaRoche deposited a 3-2 slider from Garza to straightaway center field. The homer was LaRoche's ninth of the season and third in his last three visits to Miller Park, dating to last season.

Gonzalez (4-4) scattered three hits and struck out five in his second start since returning from the disabled list. Aaron Barrett and Drew Storen bridged the gap to Tyler Clippard, who struck out the side in the ninth for his first save of the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Washington manager Matt Williams was ejected after he got into a heated argument with home plate umpire Mark Wegner about balls and strikes in the second inning. ... Nationals CF Denard Span went 0-for-4 to see his six-game hitting streak come to an end. ... Milwaukee RF Ryan Braun had a two-out double in the fifth inning to account for his team's last hit of the contest.
