Marlins 3, Nationals 2: Giancarlo Stanton belted a two-run homer among three hits and scored twice as visiting Miami edged Washington in the opener of a three-game series.

Casey McGehee recorded two hits and an RBI for the Marlins, who won for only the second time in 14 games the last two seasons at Washington. Miami starter Nathan Eovaldi (4-2) allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five over 6 1/3 innings and Steve Cishek pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save.

Adam LaRoche smashed a two-run homer and Wilson Ramos had a double for the Nationals, who lost for the fifth time in the last six games to fall under .500 at 25-26. Washington’s Tanner Roark (3-3) yielded three runs on five hits and fanned four in the first seven innings to take the loss.

Stanton doubled off diving right fielder Jayson Werth’s glove with two outs in the first inning and scored on McGehee’s base hit to left field. Derek Dietrich was hit by a pitch with two outs in the third and trotted home when Stanton hammered the next pitch way over the center-field fence for a 3-0 lead.

Werth singled with one out in the sixth and scored when LaRoche lifted his sixth homer into the right-field seats on the first pitch from Eovaldi to close the gap to 3-2. Mike Dunn retired the only two batters he faced in the seventh and A.J. Ramos pitched a 1-2-3 eighth to bridge the gap to Cishek.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Stanton, who wore a stars and stripes long sleeve on his right arm in honor of Memorial Day, has 14 homers in 34 career games at Nationals Park. … LaRoche, in his second game back from the disabled list, had one hit in four at-bats and is 8-for-22 with three walks against the Marlins this season. … McGehee improved to .426 with runners in scoring position (23-for-54) this season after getting a hit in two tries Monday.
