Marlins 8, Mariners 4: Giancarlo Stanton hit a walkoff grand slam to give host Miami the victory over Seattle.

Stanton slammed the 1-2 pitch from Yoervis Medina (0-1) well over the left-center field fence and had five RBIs to raise his major-league leading total to 26. Steve Cishek (1-0) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth as the Marlins won for only the second time in 11 games while handing the Mariners their fourth straight loss.

Pinch hitter Reed Johnson began the ninth with a single to right off Medina and Christian Yelich followed with a bunt single. Marcell Ozuna bunted and Johnson appeared to be forced at third but the call was challenged by Miami manager Mike Redmond and it was ruled that Seattle third baseman Kyle Seager bobbled the ball while transferring; Stanton followed with the decisive blast.

The Mariners pushed across the tying run in the seventh on Corey Hart’s two-out single to center. Miami had opened up a 4-2 lead on Ozuna’s sacrifice fly in the second and Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s upper-deck homer to right in the third and Seattle got back within a run on Brad Miller’s infield out in the fifth.

Stanton, who reached base five times on three hits and two walks, and Casey McGehee delivered run-scoring singles to give Miami a two-run cushion in the first. Stanton’s outfield play caused the lead to evaporate in the second as he failed to field a single by Dustin Ackley and the ball rolled to the wall as Michael Saunders scored and Ackley circled the bases without a play at the plate.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed three runs (one earned) and seven hits in six innings while Seattle’s Chris Young lasted just three frames and gave up four runs, seven hits and three walks. … Yelich went 3-for-5 to raise his career-best hitting streak to 12 games. … Seattle All-Star RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (finger) faced live hitters for the first time prior to Friday’s game and could be ready for a rehab assignment sometime next week.
