Padres 4, Marlins 2: Pinch-hitter Alexi Amarista belted a three-run homer and Ian Kennedy tossed six strong innings as visiting San Diego snapped a four-game losing streak.

Kennedy (1-1) allowed one run on three hits while striking out five for the Padres, who scored two runs in the first 24 innings of the series before Amarista’s homer with two outs in the seventh. Huston Street worked a perfect ninth for his second save in his first appearance since Opening Day.

The Marlins appeared headed for a series sweep behind Nathan Eovaldi (1-1), who held the Padres to three hits over the first six innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Will Venable and Tommy Medica hit consecutive singles with one out and Eovaldi retired Yasmani Grandal before Amarista deposited his first hit of the season into the right-field seats.

Eovaldi allowed six hits and while striking out eight for Miami, which completed its season-opening homestand with a 5-2 mark. The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Christian Yelich ripped a leadoff triple and Giancarlo Stanton followed with a single to left field, giving him 12 RBIs in the team's first seven games.

After San Diego moved ahead in the seventh, Miami answered with a run in the bottom half on Jeff Baker’s pinch-hit RBI double off Alex Torres. The Padres added an insurance run in the eighth on Yonder Alonso’s sacrifice fly and Joaquin Benoit retired the Marlins in order in the bottom half before Street came on in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Amarista became the 10th player in National League history to hit a pinch-hit home run on his birthday. The homer was the 25-year-old’s first as a pinch-hitter. … San Diego snapped a five-game losing streak against the Marlins. … Miami begins a six-game road trip in Washington on Monday while San Diego heads to Cleveland for a three-game series.
